Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian/American media critic, is also a speech writer. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which provides commentary and videos on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American journalist and critic who has been awarded awards for her work, is a feminist blogger. Feminist Frequency, a web-based resource dedicated to education, which examines women's role in the narratives of pop culture, is her brainchild. She also serves as the director of operations. As well as working to bring awareness to the harassment and targeted assaults on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is dedicated to breaking down the stigmas and stereotypes prevalent in popular culture. Sarkeesian has a Master's degree in social and political thinking from York University. As a public speaker, she is well-known and has spoken at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. When she was a student at the university she became concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women at an early stage. An ambitious woman who wanted to launch a web-series that would examine the gender-based representation in video games was targeted by an internet-based campaign. But the harassment did not dissuade her. The experience only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Sarkeesian has been awarded many awards for her contributions to feminism. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in popular culture of today.
